Since I travel a lot and usually make it shorts trips, Coffee is my number one hack for being able to do it all in such a short amount of time. When traveling, small coffeehouses are some of the best places to visit to get to experience the culture (and usually some amazing coffee)… And if all else fails, I can usually find a Starbucks so I can stay peak caffeinated at all times (except in Australia but that’s another story for another day) …
However, my usual plan of constant caffeine became a problem when thinking about the Princess Half since I have to be up and functioning at 3AM!!! Ugh haha… If you know me at all, you know that I basically run on caffeine so in planning and packing for the Princess half, I wanted to make sure I had a way to actually run on caffeine so I put together this hack!
HUGE thanks to my girl Alex for introducing me to this Wacaco portable espresso maker! It was a lifesaver when here and I did the Marvel 10k last year! I used to make fun of Alex for traveling with a Nespresso but now I totally get it... but since I ONLY travel with a carry-on, I can’t justify packing one so needed a smaller more portable option! Hotel coffee is just not the same as that warm and rich espresso- so enter the Wacaco! This little gift from the heavens allows you to make espresso anywhere you want! Simply add warm water** (I always grab a couple of water bottles for my hotel room before I check in) and a Nespresso pod and pump (little extra workout too) and BOOM! Nespresso coffee when you need it most! Brilliant invention!
… And since no coffee is complete without cream… I have tried to like black coffee and I just can’t- I know, I’m not perfect which I am sure is news to us all haha… Anywayyyysss, if you remember, when I was doing Whole 30, coffee without cream and sugar was my biggest issue but finally found the answer with nutpods/almond milk + the Vanilla Vital Proteins collagen. However, since nutpods are not 3.4oz or smaller (I’ve already reached out and begggggggggged them to do it haha) and because almond milk needs to be refrigerated and I can’t guarantee making it to a grocery store or having a fridge in the hotel room, I have found the Vanilla Vital Proteins Collagen Creamer to be BAE in these situations! All you have to do is add to coffee and Voila!**… And how great is it that they now have travel packs which makes packing them even easier (which you know is a win for this lazy chick)! Another added benefit of the collagen creamer is that even before I run, I will be getting collagen to protect my joints and protein to help keep me going but also to recover faster… Seriously, someone had Vital Proteins had their Wheaties (or Overnight Oats) the morning they invented this! If you do need something more liquid, I suggest a can of coconut milk that doesn’t need to be refrigerated. Even if you do have a fridge and have your preferred creamer on hand, you can still add the collagen creamer for the flavor and all the added benefits! Also, if you’re doing Whole 30 or Keto, this collagen cream is approved!!!
** I would also super recommend getting a frothing stick (like this one) to help not only warm water but to blend the collagen creamer into coffee. It takes two seconds to use and helps make life easier… The only reason it’s not included in this pic is because I forgot to add it but don’t want you to miss out on the knowledge J
Ok, I think that’s enough talk on all things travel coffee related! I’m going to try to do a post a day this week to share all the useless tips and tricks I have when it comes to travel + lazy girl hacks!
